The following will help ypou learn and understand the function of Multiplication. After you read and understand this please take the practice exercises that I've provided.

A. Single-Digit Multiplication
First, lets start out with the basics. Say we have 5 x 4. This is a single digit problem. This is equal to

5 + 5 + 5 + 5

OR

4 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 4

(You should know addition before we start with multiplication. If not, Please Click Here.)

5 + 5= 10

10 + 5= 15

15 + 5= 20

OR

4 + 4= 8

8 + 4= 12

12 + 4= 16

16 + 4= 20

So, 5 x 4 is 20

Lets try another one. How about 7 x 3 This can equal:

7 + 7 + 7

OR

3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3

So add, 7 + 7= 14

14 + 7= 21

OR

3 + 3= 6

6 + 3= 9

9 + 3= 12

12 + 3= 15

15 + 3= 18

18 + 3= 21

So 7 x 3 is equal to 21
